About the Department

This department was founded in 1964 with only one faculty named Mahendra Das. Later the strength of the faculty enhanced up to two. Noted scholar of Assam like Dr. Sunil Pawan Baruah also served the department. Infusing both historical knowledge and senses and career building among the aspirants students in the locality was the main aim of the establishment. The department offered only general course till 1996 . In the same year, after getting major concurrence the department began to offer major course in the subject. In the subsequent years a good number of students were enrolled in both General and Major/Honors courses.
