About the Department

In the backdrop of 1960s, Boko was a place where the demography largely consisted of tribal people who were also, educationally backward to a great extent. Therefore, a few socially conscious people highly anticipated the need of an institution of higher education in order to illuminate the region and lead the people from darkness towards light. As a result of their goodwill and continuous efforts, the Jawaharlal Nehru College was established in Boko on 3rd August 1964. Consequently the subject education was introduced at graduate level in 1979 and thereafter Major in Education was started in 1991 due to the high demand and interest of the students. The main aims and objectives of the department are to impart knowledge-based education in the subject so that the student of the locality can opt for higher Education.
Vision: to provide an opportunity to the youths of this locality and help them to acquire knowledge and skills in the field of education through which they can develop their potentialities and also contribute to the society at large. The department strives to facilitate quality education for the development of individuality of each and every student according to their needs and aspirations and also familiarize the students with the development taking place in higher education and to create awareness in their mind. The department introduced a carrier-oriented program for development of knowledge and skill of the students.
Mission: with a view to meet the vision, the faculty members of the department are always eager to transact the curriculum to provide knowledge-based quality education through course content.
