Jawaharlal Nehru College, Boko has a vibrant cultural unit that provides a platform both to the students and the staff ( teaching and non teaching) for displaying their creativity and talents. The Cultural unit organizes different programs and activities on various occasions such as Shilpi Divas(17 th January) Rava Divas (20th June), death anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika ( 5th November) etc. and encourages students and staff to actively participate in the programmes. The activities of the cultural unit are collectively performed both by the students and the staff of the college. The Cultural Unit organizes events throughout the year and in turn enables students to be exposed to the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Assam as well as India. The encouragement for participation results ample opportunities for the students to develop their potential and to express their hidden talents in a variety of co- curricular events. One of the primary goals of the Cultural unit is to promote and develop the Cultural aesthetics of the students and the staff of the college. The beginning: A formal cultural unit was formed under the supervision of Dr. Nripen Goswami, Ex Principal of J. N . College in the year 2014 with assistance by Mrs. Manjira Sarma (Convenor) , Dr. Praneswar Nath, Mrs. Minati Barman, Dr. Dipankar Sarma, (members from teaching staff) , late Pradip Das, Mr Amal Rabha ,( member from non teaching staff) Mrinal Boro (member from Students Union) . After the retirement of Dr. Nripen Goswami, the unit continues to work under the guidance of Dr. Tapan Dutta , Present Principal of the college. Objectives : The main objectives of the unit are- (1) To promote and develop the Cultural aspects of the students and the staff (2) To inculcate the spirit and dynamism of the college (3) To nurture, train and bring out the hidden creative talents of the students and staff (4) To inspire the students to overcome their inhibitions and exhibit their aptitudes in the cultural realm (5) To generate a sense belonging to the social and cultural life of the college. Under the guidance of this cultural unit team JNC very well performed at Gauhati University Inter College Youth Festival. In 2024 J.N. College achieved 2nd best College Award at GU Youth Fest. Presently Mrs. Manjira Sarma working as Convenor of the Unit & Dr. Bapukan Saikia working as Cultural In-charge of the Students Union.
