ECO CLUB _ J N College J.N.College , Boko in creating environmental awareness can be traced back to early years of new millennium. Observation of World Environment Day was a common practice . Gradually , small plantation programs were carried out. Faculty members of the science stream informally formed an Eco club . In the initial stages Eco club gave thrust on documentation of plant diversity within the college campus. There was no proper documentation of the activities of the Eco Club because all these programmes were carried out under the common banner of college. The turning point came in the year 2020 when the present principal of our college appointed two faculties as coordinators and joint coordinators of the official Eco Club of the college which was christened as The Eco club, J.N.C. It is now one of the recognized Eco Club by ASTEC( Assam Science , Technology and Environment Council ) under the Ministry of Environment , Forest and Climate Change , Government of India. At present, the primary thrust areas of the Eco club J.N.C are : • To create an eco-friendly environment in the college. • To complement and support government agenda related to environmental issues. • To generate an awakened and sensitive group of young minds that can feel for nature (environment ) and can devote in nurturing nature in their own ways. • To promote eco-friendly practices inside the college campus. • To create awareness among the local community about the need of conservation of bio-diversity.
